Lord Fuse is the main antagonist of the Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall franchise and its fan revivals. The mysterious ruler of Planet Fusion, he is the one responsible for the gradual destruction of the Earth and for creating Fusions, the evil twins of the universe's inhabitants. He is known to have come from another galaxy, and had existed for least a millennium before that. He has led invasions of countless worlds, the majority of them successful.

Physical appearance[]

Fuse's true appearance is unknown, as no one has seen him in person.[1]

History[]

FusionFall: Worlds Collide[]

In FusionFall: Worlds Collide, Fuse entered the Solar System and invaded Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury via Planet Fusion. Eventually, Fuse set his sights set on the Earth when some Terrafusers beaconed Planet Fusion to said planet.

Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall[]

Prior to FusionFall[]

At some point before coming to Earth, Fuse invaded the planet Anurphaetos. Eventually, the inhabitants of Anurphaetos reached an agreement with Fuse; their planet would be spared, but they had to aid Fuse in his conquest. Only Vilgax seems to know anything about this agreement.[2] At some other point, Fuse also tried to invade the home world of the Glorft, but the Glorft were able to successfully defend themselves against the invasion.[3]

Fusion Invasion[]

The Future[]

In the Future, Fuse was seemingly on the verge of winning the Fusion Invasion, with him and his forces gaining more ground on the Earth with each passing day.[4][5]

The Past[]

For most of the war, Fuse acts from behind the scenes, on Planet Fusion. From there, he leads his troops against the Earth's forces and makes his plans and strategies for consuming the world. He has also tried on numerous occasions to study Imaginary Energy, the element that is most effective against his forces. It is not until the Mission "Fuse No More (Part 1 of 4)" that Fuse starts to personally participate in the war.

By manifesting a physical form on the surface of the planet, he planned to transfer his energies down to that form, allowing him to appear on Earth, destroy the hero, and power up his forces from inside Fuse's Lair. Fuse eventually managed to materialize himself fully in this form, but thanks to the hero, the shield that protected him was destroyed, thus leaving him vulnerable. In "Fuse No More (Part 4 of 4)," the hero faces Fuse and is able to destroy his form after a long difficult battle. However, because the form in his lair was only an inferior manifestation of Fuse himself, Fuse's energies simply returns to Planet Fusion upon his defeat, and he is able to continue the invasion and his plans as he did before.

After the heroes founded the Academy, Fuse reorganized his forces and created several new monsters to keep a handhold on the war.

FusionFall Retro[]

The World Nano mission "Fuse Some More" further elaborated on Fuse's role in the game's narrative by revealing that Planet Fusion and Fuse himself are the same entity: a hivemind controlling all of the Fusions and Fusion Monsters. Thus, the "Lord Fuse" that was fought inside of Fuse's Lair was nothing more than a much weaker manifestation of Fuse's presence and that the planet itself is the true enemy.

Powers and abilities[]

Most of Fuse's powers are unknown, due to the limited knowledge about him. However, he is evidently a powerful entity; even the combined might of all of the galaxy's heroes and some unlikely allies would prove insufficient to defeat Fuse and his minions.[6] Additionally, Dexter himself, for all his intellect, would proclaim that Fuse was more powerful than even he could imagine.[7] Also, while Samurai Jack has deemed Aku a greater threat than Fuse,[8] when Fuse prepared to materialize on the Earth, Jack doubted that the world's resistance would be able to stop him.[9] Dexter similarly thought that if Fuse appeared on the Earth, all hopes of winning the Fusion Invasion would be lost.[10]

  • Fusion Creation: Fuse's most well-known power is his ability to create Fusions, evil duplicates of the universe's inhabitants, by combining a personal item with Fusion Matter. Being capable of making lots of Fusions, he can make multiple Fusions of the same individual, meaning he can replace any Fusion that is eventually destroyed.[11] These efforts, however, drain Fuse of his energy, and so it takes time for him to replace Fusions that have been destroyed.
  • Fusion Matter Manipulation: Fuse possesses an unspecified connection to Fusion Matter that allows him a degree of control over this substance. This grants him a number of powers:
    • Mind Control: With his connection to Fusion Matter, Fuse is able to control the minds of those possessing the Fusion energy in Fusion Matter. For example, when Kevin absorbed Fusion energy from Fusion Matter, Fuse was able to take full control of his mind and use him to further his own ends.[12]
    • Telepathic Broadcasting: Using his connection to Fusion Matter, Fuse is able to communicate directly with any creature infused with said substance, which include both Fusions and Fusion Monsters alike.[13] These commands take the form of coded data in the Fusion Matter itself.[14] However, this data can be extracted from the Fusion Matter, allowing others to essentially read Fuse's thoughts and commands.[14]
  • Physical Manifestation Creation: Fuse is able to create physical manifestations for himself to inhabit. For example, by creating a physical body made of Fusion Matter and then projecting his energies into it, Fuse was able to appear on the Earth during the Fusion Invasion. In addition, should these physical manifestations be destroyed, his energies will simply return to Planet Fusion. Such bodies can possess various powers:
    • Attribute Manipulation: In battle, Fuse is able to changing the attributes of his physical manifestation between Adaptium, Blastons, and Cosmix. This way, Fuse makes it harder for his opponent to select the right Nano to fight him with.
    • Energy Drain: Like his Fusion Monsters, Fuse's physical manifestation possesses the Corruption Attack, which lets him drain Nanos of their stamina, except his is much more powerful. When he is attacking a Nano, he will start to glow, which is the wind up, before throwing an attack that will trump his opponent's Nano. Should it make contact, the Nano will lose a lot of stamina. Conversely, if his opponent drops their current Nano and brings out one that deflects the attack, the Nano will get a boost in stamina. Should Fuse launch his Corruption Attack on an opponent without a Nano out though, the latter will damage directly.
    • Energy Projection: In his physical manifestation, Fuse can fire green energy blasts from the limbs attached to his back.
    • Fusion Matter Explosion: Like his Fusion Monsters, Fuse's physical manifestation possesses the Eruption Attack, which lets him create a localized explosion of Fusion Matter from the ground, except his is much more powerful. When launching this attack, Fuse makes ground below his opponent glow with Fusion Matter for a few seconds before causing a pillar of Fusion Matter to erupt.
    • Limb Attack: In his physical manifestation, Fuse can detach his arms after taking a substantial amount of damage. These limbs are able to move around and attack on their own.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: An unique power displayed by Fuse's physical manifestation is his ability to heal it of physical damage.
    • Stun Inducement: Like his Fusion Monsters, Fuse's physical manifestation possesses the Stun power which can temporarily immobilize his opponents completely, causing them to be left without movement for a few moments, except his is much more powerful.
  • Magic Mastery: Over the millennia, Fuse has mastered many different forms of magic as a result of his world-conquering.
  • Science Mastery: Over the millennia, Fuse has mastered many different forms of science and technology as a result of his world-conquering.

Battle[]

Lord Fuse's Face

Close up of Fuse's face

Fuse is one of the strongest monsters in the game, surpassed only by Don Doom, Bad Max, Fusion Kimchi, the turrets inside Vilgax's Ship, and the Fusion Blowfish, Rudy, Cootie, Judy, and Tootie, all of which possess surprising defensive power.

Shatterguns and rifles are recommended for battle with Fuse, as his more powerful abilities are triggered by moving within a certain distance. Both types of weapons can harm him beyond this distance. Nanos with damage and healing powers are also recommended, as Fuse's stunning and healing abilities in the first and second forms, respectively, can make overcoming him difficult. Specific powers would be Leech, Health, and Freedom, though the latter power is only recommended for the first two phases.

Fuse's manifestation is fought in three stages: his first body, his second body and right arm, and his third body and left arm. Each body and arm spawn is formed with the defeat of the previous body. Defeating the final body counts as victory, even if the arms are left "alive." Fuse's body is rooted to the ground, and cannot move. The arms, however, are able to move. Fuse's body changes type each time it is defeated.

If the player moves within pistol range of Fuse, his corruption and eruption attacks have the potential to be triggered. His eruption attack, in particular, covers most of his throne and will instantly KO the player regardless of health. Staying at rifle range prevents their use, though Fuse can still use his body's abilities. Fuse's arms each possess the ability Fuse had in the previous phase of battle and can attack the player physically.

Fuse's body's attacks consist of a simple melee attack, a more powerful corruption attack, and an eruption attack which instantly knocks out anyone on his platform. Unlike other monsters in the game, Fuse does not heal when the player is knocked out, unless he has the heal power.

The player begins by fighting his main body, which has the stun ability and a quick melee attack. Once that is defeated, his right arm detaches with the ability to stun and his body gains the ability to heal; both parts have their own melee attack. A shattergun will allow both to be struck at once. Thanks to his healing ability, Fuse's body will likely take a significant amount of time to defeat. His final body causes his left arm to detach with the healing power and his body gains the damage power; Both have a melee attack as before. The player will achieve victory after defeating the body a third time.
